I am often amused at the very human nature of people to immediately start clicking away the very moment they set their eyes on the place or monument of interest. Out comes the mobiles with 10 identical shots of the same scene and in seconds Instagram posts, without even admiring or soaking in what one has travelled for. It is as though one is travelling for others.
Not that I have anything against this, to each their own. I do advise my own girls first to soak in the place, go around, live that experience. Our visits are spaced out so we are not rushing from one place to another as we try to avoid organized tours on our travels. Reading up on a place, allows me to self-guide as well as relate the same to my girls (I have been unsuccessful in getting them to do the reading part before travelling). Of course, I read just enough to cover information in a nutshell, that’s it (keeping in mind I am on a holiday and not an educational tour with students).
Armed with this and having seen the place or monument in its entirety, allows one to take the best shots and angles instead of clicking away mindlessly. Don’t worry, about not being able to cover the entire monument on your mobile screen, that’s what the internet is for. Instead of breaking your head trying to fit in the scene on the tiny mobile screen or slyly using the camera in a place that prohibits photography (that’s really not done), just print from an online website when you get back home, should you need for your photo album or scrap book. There are plenty sites that offer high quality images covering all corners of the world for personal use. These sites like the Creative Commons website allow for photos to be used without any copy right issues.
